General Description

Soda Ash Light, derived from trona ore, is also referred to as sodium carbonate or soda carbonate. It is a non-toxic, non-flammable, and odorless powder.

 

Another way to derive soda ash is called the ammonia soda (Solvay) process, which involves a reaction between sodium chloride and calcium carbonate. Another method involves extracting soda ash from ores like trona and nahcolite. In simpler terms, soda ash is created by heating certain substances. This particular type, known as anhydrous sodium carbonate or calcined soda, is formed through this heating process.

 

There are 3 grades available in soda ash: washing soda, light soda ash, and dense soda ash. Their chemical properties are identical, differing only in physical characteristics.

 

Dense soda ash finds use in industrial chemical manufacturing, light soda ash acts as a pH regulator in various industrial processes, and washing soda enhances cleaning abilities in detergents and soaps.

 

This white, anhydrous powder (NA2CO3) plays a vital role in detergent, glass, and industrial product manufacturing. The production of soda ash light yields byproducts like caustic soda, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium sulfite, and sodium bicarbonate.

 

Soda ash is a cost-effective solution for raising the pH and alkalinity of water, reducing its corrosiveness, and facilitating the removal of iron, manganese, and particulates through flocculation. Typically, it is dissolved into a solution and administered using a dosing pump for effective water treatment.

 

Soda ash storage instructions: Store the container in a tightly closed condition in a dry and well-ventilated area. Due to its hygroscopic nature, ensure storage in a dry place. Classify the storage under TRGS 510 as Non-Combustible Solids.
