General Description

Sodium carbonate is an inorganic chemical having the formula Na2CO3 with several hydrates. It is sometimes referred to as washing soda, soda ash, and soda crystals. It is a white, odorless, soluble in water salt that produces alkaline water solutions. It is made from limestone and sodium chloride using the Solvay and Chlor-alkali processes, and it is taken from soil ashes that are high in sodium. Typical uses include glass, soap, paper, water softening, soap powders, and household cleaning.
